Biofilm based wound care
A thick film that covers the surface of a wound is known as Biofilm. It is caused when bacteria enter the wound, invades the surface and defenses of the host.
The bacteria then develop rapidly into a thick covering known as the film which covers up the surface of the wound. Multiple tools were developed to treat wound biofilm through laboratory and clinical studies.
The procedure entails altering the anatomy of the wound to remove the crevices and redundant tissue. This gives advantage to the patient which facilitates the healing of the wound.
Venous Disease Management
Southwest Regional wound care center treats venous disease and wounds using office-based evaluations and management. Venous wounds are treated with Laser Vein Closure (EVLT) and Ultrasound-guided Sclerotherapy.
In Laser vein closure, the greater saphenous vein is closed to shunt blood through a better working deep vein system to facilitate quicker healing.
In the ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, a sclerosing agent is injected into the branch varicose veins to stop ineffective veins from working. This allows the most effective and perfectly functional veins to work.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) is a treatment or therapy to increase the oxygen content in the blood. A patient is placed in an oxygen chamber that produces 100% oxygen to increase the oxygen content in the blood to promote wound healing.
When the patient breaths in 100% pure oxygen, it saturates the blood plasma of the patient. Oxygen content that is 20 or 30 times more than normal oxygen content is transferred to the tissues in the body leading to quicker healing of wounds.
